So much to talk about....

For those that don't know, I started a new job a couple of months ago. The good news is that the pay and benefits are better. The bad news is that I really am not enjoying it in the slightest. Maybe I'll get used to it, who knows. Wish me luck, because at the moment it feels like I'm going insane. I really was properly depressed about it last week. Anyway, it's where I have to stay for the time being, so.....

On a happier note, I saw Embrace a couple of weeks back. They played live in Millenium Square in Leeds. It was a great gig, as it was clear that the band were thoroughly enjoying playing again, particularly in front of their home crowd. If you don't know Embrace, they were making a name for themselves in the mid to late 90's, but started struggling. They all went back to their day jobs, but have made a fantastic comeback with what is quite possibly the album of their career. It helps, of course, that one of the tracks on the album was written by one Mr. Chris Martin, but the other songs on the CD hold up to scrutiny. The concert was filmed, too, so here's hoping a DVD release is iminent.

And speaking of Mr. Chris Martin, the new Coldplay album is utterly fantastic. The overall sound of X&Y is much more dense than either Parachutes or A Rush Of Blood To The Head, but it is still recognisably Coldplay, with the anthems and huge tunes still firmly in place. There are more electronic textures weaving their way in and out of the arrangements, and Chris' piano lines are noticeable by their absence, yet the album feels more like a coherent whole than previous efforts, with the band really coming into their own as a unit. It's easy to see how comparisons are being made with that other global phenomenon, U2, as Coldplay seemingly continue to ascend to loftier heights with each new release. Here's hoping they continue to be as interesting for years to come.....

So, until next time, this is Happy Harry signing off. And remember to eat your cereal with a fork...... ah, you know the rest.
