No purpose to Monster's Ball? You hated it? What's wrong with you people?

It's about realising that life is about negotiating contradiction and compromise. It's about finding solace where you can, and in the most unexpected places. It's about how things come at you out of the blue. It's about the fact that sometimes there is no "Why", things just happen. It's about redemption. It's about irrational hatred. It's about how people become trapped by their circumstances. It's about finding your way out.

It's also crafted very carefully. It runs a complex gamut of emotions whilst seeming simple in construction. The acting is superb and, for the most part, beautifully restrained. I've already mentioned the outstanding score. There is no saccharine Hollywood ending, although there is the overt suggestion of hope.

WHAT MORE DO YOU PEOPLE WANT?

But, of course, each to their own. Such is the nature of art. Subjectivism rules.

You're just all wrong.
