The Boring Cricket Bit

But whilst it wouldn't be half as powerful had the history not come before it, and had the band not been up to it, one of the finest Bruce Springsteen albums to grace this earth is "Live In New York City."

Fortunately the band were up to it, and the 25 years or so of recording had come before it - hence the most powerful rendition of "Youngstown" I have ever heard them perform. Hell, the most powerful live recording I may have heard, period.

oOo oOo oOo

And so England have won the Ashes for the first time in 18 years. If you know nothing about the very English game of cricket, then this will mean little to you. Let me explain.

In 1882, I believe, the Australian cricket team toured England. They beat the English national team so badly that the newspapers reported the English game to be dead, and that the ashes would be boxed up and sent to Australia. As such, one of the bails used in the game was burnt, it's ashes put in a miniature urn, and ever since then the English and Australian cricket teams have competed on an annual basis to win the ashes as their prize.

The English team have been less than up to the task of winning the series for quite some time now, having come in for a lot of flak and ridicule along the way, so it's great that they've managed to win the competition this time around.

Well done fellas. Have a pint of Tetley's on me.
